installations

wall bar

This isn’t a new article but I just found it. I don’t know what to think about art installations at times I’m disgusted by them and feel they are just propaganda to make ones self rich off of the most bizzar works imaginable. Other times I’m in Awe of some of them and try to get into the place the artists is when they are creating this extension of their thought patterns. What do you think of the work above by artist Hannes Broecker? This is his exhibition in Germany? I think he’s trying to arouse our sense of taste. I also think sensory overload is exactly how I feel about most installation art in one way or the other. The screens were filled with colorful cocktails that the viewer could put a glass to and have a drink of art. This is a very cool concept, the idea of watching the art fade away by the viewers interaction with it. In the end what does it become just a blank screen on the wall? or is it still art?

Seeing In A New Perspective

Maybe some of you have seen this up close or not. Julian Beever is a sidewalk artist. His work is so 3 dimensional you feel like your really a part of it. He’s pretty much a master of this technique. I put some samples of his work here. So next time your taking a stroll watch out you just might step into a work of art.

OMG Pup’n'Pak on CNBC The Big Idea!

Soooo, I’ve been really busy with Hit Designs, lots of exciting projects and fantastic new clients. You would think working for yourself would afford you a little extra time but it’s the complete opposite if your like me and truly stand for clients come first!
Recently, I was invited to CNBC The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch to give my 30 second elevator speech about a product that I conceived and designed called the Pup’n'Pak.
It really is a great product and I’m not just saying that because it’s mine. All you dog owners know traveling with your pet for the day can be a hassle and the Pup’n'Pak eliminates that hassle. I would have to take 2 bowls, a bottle of water, a zip lock bag of food, and a small toy and throw it into a bag you get at the supermarket and drag that along with me…But now, since I made the Pup’n'Pak, I put the food on one side a water bottle on the other and a small toy right inside the 2 compartments that double as dog bowls with a water repellent liner. Makes my life easier and it can make your life easier! You can get one at my website www.pupnpak.com for only $14.95.

Watch the video clip and let me know what you think fellow K9 friends. I’m going to be designing more bags in lots of colors with my own custom designs soon.

The Art of Failure

Recently caught an HBO doc on Chuck Connelly. Connelly was at one time in the ranks of Warhol and Basquiat around the same time that pop art, abstract expressionism scene was taken place. Anyway, you see this guy full of talent and can’t get rid of a painting for more than $500 when his prices in the day were around $50,000. You think he’s washed up, an alcoholic living in a suburb of philly comes across violent at times from the mass amount of alcohol this guy consumes. But through it all, GENIOUS! I loved him and I got why he doesn’t want to sell his paintings for $200 bucks. Why sell them at all. I would give them away to my friends, neighbors and family before I sold them for shit. I honestly would like one of his paitings and I wouldn’t insult him by paying for it. I know I don’t have the money it’s worth. Keep your paintings man when your dead you’ll be worth $50,000 again.

Who, What, When, Where and Why of Design.

Designers need starting points. Yes, I agree we are Brilliant and Talented but not Magicians. In order to quote acurately, stay on track and get the ball rolling, you can start by answering a few questions like these for your designer.

  • When is the job due?
  • What are the size requirements?
  • What are the file formats you or your printer may require?
  • What media will this design be used? (print) (web) etc.
  • What is the message you want your design to say?
  • What colors do you like?
  • Do you have any particular design styles you like?
  • Do you have examples of what you like?
  • What is your budget?
  • Who is your targeted audience?
